Portraits of Place (2022)

Artist Statement

In this body of work Portraits of Place, Aarone investigates what it means to capture the essence of a place.

For works Echoes of Titjikala and Tjintjiṟa, steel sheets act as a blank canvas for natural elements; site-specific objects, organic matter, insects, wildlife, and time become the artist's medium.

Submerged in a watering hole deep in the Eastern Arrernte desert, drawings of a quiet landscape have emerged. Like a polaroid photograph, these works developed slowly over time, imprinting the ecological soul of an ancient place and its wildlife into each work.
