Palimpsest, 2024

materials: beeswax, damar resin, pigment on wood board

112 cm x 101 cm x 5 cm

Palimpsest explores the hidden narratives of the urban landscape, capturing the passage of time through the encaustic medium.

By excavating and sculpting layers of wax, vibrant textures and colours emerge, revealing the intricate interplay of concealed and exposed layers. These rich, tactile surfaces invite viewers to contemplate the ephemeral beauty of layered graffiti and the transient nature of expression etched upon the city’s evolving canvas.

The work resonates with the essence of the city’s ever-changing skin, where each mark inscribes a new chapter. It celebrates the dynamic and fleeting spirit of urban life, honouring its capacity to continually transform and renew itself.
